Dear Colleague ,
with pleasure we inform you that we designed and started a new and original registry in the setting of the inguinal hernia repair: the Trabucco registry.
This is an initiative designed and driven by Professor Giampiero Campanelli, Professor of Surgery, Insubria University, Istituto Clinico Sant’Ambrogio, Milano, as coordinator with his team in the Milano Hernia Center, (MHeC) and sponsored by Herniamesh S.r.l., Chivasso (TO), Italy.
The aim of this registry, on international bases, is to evaluate the efficacy of Trabucco repair for primary inguinal hernia, in terms of recurrence rate and chronic postoperative pain rate.
In addition, further parameters will be assessed as secondary endpoints.
Randomized control trials are recognized to be the studies with higher grade of evidence, but they require a lot of time for protocol design and setting, patients enrollment, follow up and data processing. So that more than five years are necessary to have results from few hundreds of patients and limited follow up time and not considered the high cost.
Registries permit to have data from large cohort of patients with long follow up in a relative short time and with limited resources.
Nowadays various techniques are possible for primary inguinal hernia repair and new prosthesis every day are proposed. This wide possibility of choice makes surgeons disoriented in their decision, with the ending of a myriad of personal original variations.
Results from different techniques are difficult to be compared in a significantly statistic manner.
For these reasons, we decide to include in this registry just patients underwent to primary inguinal hernia repair with the Trabucco technique.
The Trabucco technique is simple to be performed, does not require additional cost or time, can be easily achieved in a day surgery regimen, under local anaesthesia, so that can be easily selected in the majority of primary inguinal hernia repair.
We are glad if you want to join us in this initiative.
In this case,in this platform, you are able to access to all information, protocol, video, on how to participate.
In case you will correctly participate, you will be coauthor of the paper that will be submitted after 5 years to be published on a major journal.
